The technology of misting systems using pyrethrums has been used for the past 30 or more years. Initially, it was used on dairy farms to control flies, because if flies were controlled, milk production increased. Shortly afterwards, this system technology was installed in stables to protect expensive race horses against serious or debilitating diseases.

About ten years ago, an entrepreneur decided to try the system outside for residential mosquito control. Since then, there have been about 15,000 – 20,000 systems installed worldwide, and approximately 8,000 of those have been MistAway systems.
